Micro Data Centers and Prices to the Moon
And more stuff to look at
Good Morning all, this is your favorite newsletter. Here’s your 5-minute dose of what’s going on in the DC business.
Here’s what we got for ya today:
A Deep Dive in Micro Data Centers 🔬
Prices are going up and up and up
More of what you should be reading today
Daily DAL-E 🎨
Below this line should be a gif….
What’s Going on in the Industry?
Prince Williams County officials looking to amend noise regulations. PW County has quickly become the market of choice for DC infrastructure. Residents and the DC community are working together to resolve data center-related noise issues.
The new amendment process will allow officials to consider a number of noise-reducing measures.
DNS security is set to keep growing. The market for DNS security will continue to expand due to growing requirements to secure enterprise networks from increasingly serious cyber attacks.
Experts expect a compounded annual growth of 9.8% over the next decade.
Looking to cash in? South Asia and the Pacific are expected to grow at the fastest rate.
Schneider Electric looks to what’s next for 2023. They’re looking at power instability being the driving force in 2023 (well that makes sense!), along with a standardization of sustainability.
More flexibility, faster speeds, and higher capacity are the driving forces behind the industry in 2023. (According to the knuckleheads over at Schneider, that is)
Data center pricing to keep rising… Supply chain and power issues are the inputs driving rising costs.
Further, due to delays, projected availability of space is no longer accurate. This uncertainty is sending prices 📈.
The Miniature Marvels of the Tech World…
Data centers may be the giant elephants of the networking world - massive beasts that take up tons of space and resources to run. Micro data centers are small, self-contained units that can be deployed in remote locations, branch offices, or anywhere a full-size data center isn't practical or cost-effective. They're like the chihuahuas of the tech world - small, scrappy, and able to fit in your carry-on luggage.
The micro data center is where big data and networks meet the edge. These are easily deployable, sometimes even mobile, data center solutions. MDCs are a means to help implement edge computing in the real world.
Edge computing is the “what” while micro data centers, along with a network backbone, are part of the “how”.
Example of the modularity of MDCs
The modularity of micro data centers and the fact that they’re also often delivered partially or fully assembled means that they can be deployed in fractions of the time than a traditional build-out.
Check out the write-up from Stackpath here for a more in-depth look at the micro data centers that are helping transform network deliverability.

Idk, I think I’d hang out there in a kimono drinking scotch and smoking cigars….
